Western Flora

End of November

Maria's final week was eventful, I even gave her the last full day here off to do what she wanted. This of course meant going to visit the water.

Some of the events from the week:

Digging ants, of course

Finding some water during our surveying

Seeing our first ever turtle frog. There were some people staying here that are surveying the local wildlife. They were hired by a mining company that is proposing a large coal extraction project in the area. Every night they would bring some interesting critters back to show all of us.

Maria's last visit with Ray, Lorraine, and Alan.

Ants develop by complete metamorphosis, meaning the eggs hatch into larvae that must be cared for by the workers. The larvae pupate into adult workers or reproductives. After two or three years, the colony matures and begins to produce swarmers every year. ants removal service
